Dec 16, 2005 - We have completed the Lunar Regolith Simulant Materials Workshop Report, now titled "Lunar Regolith Simulant Materials: Recommendations for Standardization, Production and Usage", and have posted the "pre-release" version to the publications area of this website. NASA publications will now take the document and place it in the standard format for a NASA technical publication. A downloadable version of the final release will be posted to the website as soon as it is available along with information as to how to obtain a hardcopy and/or CD of the document.

The goal of this NASA-sponsored workshop was to establish requirements for the production and distribution of terrestrial analogs of lunar regoliths, which will become the accepted source material standards for research and development efforts on Space Resources Utilization technologies. The current lack of available and commonly accepted simulant materials hampers research progress and often renders studies and performance comparisons of technologies inconclusive. A Lunar Regolith Simulant Materials Requirements document is currently in work and will be made available as soon as it is ready. The requirements document will be based on information gathered during the workshop and subsequent work, which has occurred around the Agency since then.
