Who We Are

Providing Solutions for Exploration Challenges
We support NASA's mission by generating and disseminating knowledge and providing solutions for exploration challenges in areas such as Earth and Space Science, Exploration Science and Technology, Propulsion Research, and Space Optics Research and Technology. To accomplish this, the Science and Research Directorate conducts and integrates basic and applied research, develops enabling technologies, administers assigned programs and projects, and engages in appropriate partnerships with other government agencies, academia, industry, and international materials science and biotechnology communities.

We offer science facilities on Earth and in space
Whether investigations are conducted in Earth-based laboratories or in the low-gravity conditions of the International Space Station or other NASA carriers, we offer cutting-edge laboratory facilities. Now installed on the International Space Station, the Microgravity Science Glovebox provides comprehensive research capabilities for small investigations from all disciplines of the NASA Microgravity Program.
