History: The Biotechnology Program at MSFC has Achieved the Following:
48 Shuttle flights Carried Research Hardware, 11 to ISS
Approximately 200 publications by Flight Investigators from 1995 to 2004
Over 270 Publications by Ground Investigators from 1990 to 2004
7 Publications from ISS Research
Over 110 Flight Investigators participating in the Program
Over 225 types of Biological Macromolecules Flown
Over 12,000 Biological Macromolecular Samples Flown
18 Patents Awarded as a Direct Result of the Research in the Program
Highest Resolution of a Virus (Satellite Tobacco Mosaic Virus)
Highest Resolution of an Insulin
Highest Resolution Structure of Calcium-Bonding Protein Paravalbumin
